The vision to establish a Methodist Society in Community 11, Tema, dates back to 1977 during the tenure of Rev. Samuel K. Hodasi, then Superintendent Minister of The Methodist Church, Tema. In pursuit of this vision, St. Paul Methodist Society acquired land in Community 11. However, for strategic reasons, the land was later developed into the present Methodist Day Secondary School (MEDASS) to support the long-term educational mission of the Church.
A decade later, in 1986, renewed efforts were made to begin a Society in Community 11. Under the leadership of the then Superintendent Minister, Rev. William Robert Abeeku Blankson, a Bible Class was started with members of St. Paul Methodist Church residing in the community. The class met at the residence of Bro. Cdr. E. Oko Arthur (Rtd)—now a Reverend Minister—and was led by Bro. Ekow Sey, assisted by Bro. Arthur and Bro. E.K. Haizel.
During the same period, another Bible Class made up of Bethel Methodist members living in Community 11 met at the home of the late Bro. Kwame Boakye, assisted by Bro. John Mbroh. When classrooms at MEDASS became available, both groups moved their meetings there between late 1987 and early 1988 and later began holding joint meetings on the first Sunday of every month.
Today, Immanuel Methodist Church stands as a thriving congregation, blessed with a 1,500-seater modern auditorium and a manse with administrative offices, all located in Community 11. The Society continues to grow in faith, service, and community outreach, building on the foundations laid by its pioneering members.
